Bill passed away Sunday morning February 26, 2012 at Laurels of Galesburg. He was born in Bloomington, IL, on October 13, 1925, to the late Edward and Viola Taylor. In 1941, at the age of 16, he joined the Merchant Marines. He also served several years in the Navy during WW11 on supply ships bound for South America, Spain, and Italy. Bill worked at Bykes Candy Company, Sears, Quality Films, Michigan Central Railroad, and Clark Equipment. He was working at Ewing Trailer Sales when he retired. Bill was a skilled woodworker and made beautiful wooden toys and sold them at art shows in Michigan and Florida. He was a member of the American Legion and Climax Harvesters Trailer Club. He enjoyed his electric trains, playing cards, and he and Theta enjoyed traveling with their trailer. He made the best popcorn. His first marriage was to the former Marjorie Baker. On May 2,1969, he was united in marriage to Theta Roof Betz who survives. Also surviving are a son, Bradley Taylor of Bloomington; 2 daughters, Cheryl Taylor-Viers and her husband Fred of Bellevue, and Christy (Phil) Goode of Sault Ste. Marie; two step-children, Rosalie (Chuck) Hawley of San Diego, CA and Ted (Judy) Betz of Galesburg; eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date with Pastor Noah Miller of Fulton Christian Church officiating. Memorials may be made to the Fulton Christian Church.
