William J. Mihelich, Age 64, passed away suddenly Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2014 in Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. He was born November 23, 1949 in Paw Paw the son of the late William E. and Louise C. (Kowalski) Mihelich. He received his associate's degree in Agriculture at Michigan State University. He was an agriculture farmer in Paw Paw and a member of the National Association of Grape Farmers, and Van Buren County Farm Bureau. This past year Bill together with his exceptional nephew, Steve Holden are the first is this area to grow hops under the name of 2 Paws Hops. He is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw, Knights of Columbus Council #3798, Paw Paw, Paw Paw Conservation Club and a member of the Paw Paw Township Zoning Board. He enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Texas. Bill had a great sense of humor and was lovingly known as "Scumbag" by the Tea Pot Dome gang. On July 24, 2010 in Paw Paw, Bill was united in marriage to Peggy Weaver who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Jody (Pete) Heckman of Vicksburg and their children Connie (Ken) Paynter of Kalamazoo and Bob (Cheryl) Heckman of Martin; daughter, Dawn (Mark) Cummins of Vicksburg and their children Halley Bachmann of Portage and Annette Cummins of Kalamazoo; great granddaughter Ava Bachmann; Peggy's children, Robin (Tim) Owsiany of Paw Paw and Tammy Palmer of Otsego; grandchildren, Nicholas (Mindy) Owsiany, Arlie (FiancAC., Erik LaBar) Owisany; great granddaughter, Payton Owsiany; brother, Don (Lorri) Mihelich of Paw Paw; sister, Cindy (Paul Schultz) Mihelich of Paw Paw; 2 nephews, Steve (Denise) Holden, and James Mihelich both of Paw Paw; niece, Angie (Josh) Reinitz of Battle Creek and many cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Gail D. (Wetherall) Mihelich on January 9, 2009. Family will receive friends Sunday 4 to 6 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. following visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier celebrant. Cremation will follow mass. Memorial contribution may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Hospice of Southwest Michigan, or West Michigan Cancer Center.
