William Charles Matthies, age 92, of Richland, formerly of Lawton, passed away August 8, 2017. He was born to the late Charles and Cornelia (Van Kruiningen) Matthies, on April 25, 1925 in Reed City, Michigan. He is survived by his four sons, Steve (Barbie) Matthies, Chris Matthies, Rick (Nyan) Matthies and Mitch (Sharon) Matthies, daughter in law, Carol (late Scott) Matthies, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two brothers, Wallace (Charlyn) Matthies and John (Judy) Kubiak, two sisters, Dorothy Mroczek and Virginia (Chuey) Lum and his special friend, Dolores Smith and her children. William was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma (Wiggington) Matthies and his son, Scott Matthies. William served his country in the Navy alongside General Patton in World War II; he enjoyed spending time traveling with his wife, Wilma and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Decatur VFW Post #6248. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 2017 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw, where a funeral service will commence at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Shawn Raifsnider officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Almena Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
