Virginia A. (Williams) McAllister Vernor passed away February 16, 2015 in Bonita Springs, FL at the age of 95. She was born on January 3, 1920 in Lawton, MI to Roland and Doris (Hazelton) Williams. Virginia was raised in Lawton, MI and graduated from Lawton High School in 1937. She was named Miss Lawton that same year. Virginia attended Western Normal Teachers College, Kalamazoo for two years. On September 17, 1941 she married Charles A. McAllister from Kalamazoo, MI. They had three sons, William C. McAllister of Longview, TX, Thomas C. (Roberta) McAllister of Naples, FL and David D. (Alice) McAllister of Tiffin, IA. She spent her early years raising her family, attending sporting events and managing household and family activities. In February of 1960, Charles passed away at the age of 43, so Virginia went to work to support her family. On December 14, 1961 she married Richard E. Vernor Jr. of Kalamazoo / Tekonsha, MI. They spent 25 years in the Kalamazoo / Battle Creek, MI area before retiring to Sun City, AZ in 1986. Richard passed away in March of 2006 at the age of 88. In August of 2012, Virginia moved to Emeritus Assisted Living in Bonita Springs, FL to be closer to family members. She was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2014 and entered hospice before her death. Virginia engaged in many social activities throughout her life including dancing to the "Big Band" music of her generation. She was an avid bridge player and loved to "still" paint and attend local art fairs to sell her pictures. She has left a lasting legacy to her family members. Moreover she served as an excellent caregiver to her mother and late husbands. Her angelic efforts extended their lives and well-being. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands and stepson, David Vernor of Mesa, AZ. Virginia is survived by her 3 sons and stepdaughter, Patricia Dixon, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several extended family members. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Lawton, MI. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
