Virginia "Ginny" Louise Snell, 85, of Lawton, passed away September 12, 2019 at White Oaks Assisted Living.
She was born September 30, 1933 in Quincy Township , Michigan, the daughter of the late Judge Frederick Joseph Renshaw and Gladys Neta (Moore) Renshaw.
Ginny graduated as Valedictorian from Coldwater High School in 1951, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Albion College in 1955, graduating Suma Cum Laude, and Michigan State University in 1956 earning her Masters of Arts Degree. She was employed by Albion College as Instructor of Home Economics from 1956-1959. In 1957 while working as the head cook for Camp Wakeshma, Ginny met Fred Snell, and family legend holds he fell in love with her because of the delicious brownies she baked. Ginny also worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for SW Michigan Library Cooperative for 14 years in Paw Paw. She was a member of the AAUW for more than 40 years, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Paw Paw Library Board for 17 years and a longtime member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church where she was active in the women's groups. Ginny enjoyed knitting, crafts and reading.
On March 30, 1958 in Coldwater, Michigan, she was united in marriage to Frederick Alan Snell who survives.
She is also survived by her daughter, Sally (Steve) McLeod of Ely, NV; two sons, Frederick Joseph Snell of Athens, OH, Tom (Bonnie) Snell of Paw Paw, MI; four grandchildren, Matthew, Nathaniel, Kierstyn and Zachary Snell; two sisters, Carol Graske of Spring Lake, MI and Nancy Renshaw of Battle Creek, MI.
Virginia was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Davidson and her brother, David Renshaw.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends Monday, September 30, 2019 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave., Paw Paw. A celebration of life will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Steven Green officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers at a later date. On November 30, 2019 there will be a gathering beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 26th Marshall Street, Coldwater, MI.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Paw Paw United Methodist Church or charity of choice.
