Vincent M. Cabras, 90, of Paw Paw, formerly of Chicago, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Maple Lake Assisted Living in Paw Paw. He was born October 15, 1923 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of Vicente E. and Rita (Barthelemy) Cabras. Vince was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, serving in the Burma-China Theatre in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Chicago and was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where he served on the parish finance board. Vince graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology and was employed as an electrical engineer for the Motorola Microwave Division. He achieved a Life Masters in Duplicate Bridge and loved golf, basketball and dancing.
On August 20, 1943 in South Dakota, Vincent was united in marriage to Paulina Javier, who preceded him in death July 30, 2013. He is survived by a son, Dr. Vincent (Karen) Cabras of Paw Paw; two daughters, Marsha (William) Bredemann of Chicago and Pamela (Robert) Pancoast of Stevensville; 11 grandchildren, Theresa Cabras, Anna (Mike) Licavoli, Carla (Tim) Sever, Dan Cabras, Fred Cabras, Andrea Gerstein, Arnold Michael (Beth) Ferdon, Adam (Jennifer) Ferdon, Ben (Melissa) Pancoast, Becky (Bill) Patrick and Jim (Jessica) Pancoast; 9 great grandchildren, Dulcinea, Marisa and Dominic Licavoli, Christopher Schaffner, Haley Gerstein, William Ferdon, Ellee, Eli and Noah Pancoast.
Family and friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. (EDT) Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends will also be received Friday, September 12, 2014 from 2-9 p.m. (CDT) at the Herdegen-Brieske Funeral Home, 1356 W. Wellington, Chicago, IL (773) 525-0178. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. (CDT) at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Chicago. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Franciscan Capuchins-St. Joseph Province or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
