passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 in Kalamazoo, MI. Varetta "Sis" was born on December 11, 1921 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Carl and Edna (Belisle) Sasman. Sis was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Paw Paw. She loved cooking and also loved to read. On March 8, 1941 Sis was united in marriage to her loving husband, Bertram Nelson, who preceded her in death in 2008. Sis was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hooker; brother, Elwood Sasman and sister, Alvera Knope. Sis is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Jim) Neal; grandsons, Timothy (Karen) and Patrick (Michelle); 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; sister, Carla Cain; brother, C. James (Diane) Sasman; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Saturday (2/4) from 10:00am - 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Paw Paw, where funeral services will follow at 11:00am, Rev. Ron Moritz officiating. Private interment will take place on Monday at the Evergreen Cemetery in East Lansing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw.
