Stanley Ernest Briggs, age 80, of Lawton, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He was born October 4, 1941 in Bangor, Michigan, the son of Stanley Irvin Briggs and Florence (Frye) Briggs.


Stan served in the Marine Corps from 1962 - 1968, during the Vietnam War. He was involved in the Cuban Missle Crisis during his service. He was a proud Marine and his service left him with extensive knowledge of the Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of the Kalamazoo Marine Corps. League and a member of the Decatur VFW Post 6248. Stan had many interests that included fishing and hunting, he was also an avid reader and enjoyed Louis Lamoure novels.


Stan is survived by his loving wife Charlene (Rice) Briggs,  two sons, Stanley E. Briggs, II and Jeffery James (Heather) Briggs; four grandchildren, Joshua  Brothers, William Briggs, Carly Saul and Ryan Briggs; three brothers, Bill Briggs, Jack (Sandra) Briggs and Bob Rasmussen; one sister, Joan Beatte; two half-brothers, John Briggs and Allen Briggs, along with his beloved rescue dog, Corporal and many nieces and nephews.


Cremation has taken place. Military honors will be rendered for Stan on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI. Memorial contributions in memory of Stan may be directed to the Marine Corp League https://www.mclnational.org/.
