Sophie passed away Wednesday morning, July 20, 2011 at her home. She was born July 29, 1917 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Joseph and Agatha (NiemAC.s) Nieroda. Sophie was a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bangor for 50 years and is currently a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw. She and her husband owned and operated the Town Tavern in Lawrence from 1966 - 1977 and enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. On October 22, 1938 in Chicago, Sophie was united in marriage to Thaddeus C. Piecyk who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Chester Nieroda and a sister, Eleanor Cudak. Surviving are 2 sons, James (Midge) Piecyk of Paw Paw and Raymond (Cathy) Piecyk of Lawton; 6 grandchildren, Tory Piecyk, Shannon (Ricky) Porter, Christopher Piecyk, Neal Piecyk, Bradley (Donna) Piecyk, and Ryan Piecyk; , 2 Great Grandchildren, Sophia and Caden Piecyk; 3 sisters, Janice Nieroda of Sun City, AZ, Theresa Andrle of Des Plaines, Il, and Loretta Nieroda of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law: Irene Nieroda of Mattawan; 6 nieces and 1 nephew. Family will receive friends Sunday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier and Rev. Fr. Robert Creagan concelebrants. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Paw Paw. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan or St. Mary's Church or School, Paw Paw.
