Sierra Elizabeth-Ann Loughrin, 19, of Mattawan, passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
She was born July 18, 2003, in Kalamazoo, to parents Matthew and Janine (Rigg) Loughrin. From a young age, Sierra's parents knew she possessed an extreme talent for the performing arts. All throughout school, Sierra acted in the school musicals and plays. She secured lead and featured roles in almost all of the musicals and plays she was cast in. During her senior year at Paw Paw High School, she was nominated for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical" presented by the LMC Wave Awards, and won! She was known for her beautiful singing voice. She often stunned the crowds watching her with her gifted voice and theatrical talents. Sierra was a great example to her underclassmen cast mates, many looked up to her and admired her strength, kindness, inclusion, friendship and talent. She always saw the best in everyone she met. She won the Talons Out Honor Flight essay contest in high school with a trip to Washington DC, where she delivered a eulogy written by her for her great uncles on the steps of the Tomb of the Unknown. She sang in church and helped with Sunday school and vacation bible school. Along with the performing arts, Sierra also participated in the school choirs and talent shows. She was a gifted artist and created passionate paintings and sketches. She loved poetry and was a phenomenal and skilled creative writer. Along with writing, She had a deep love for literature and read anything she could get her hands on. Most of all, Sierra loved her younger brother, Joey. Her favorite role was being a big sister and mentor to him. At the time of Sierra's passing, she was attending Lake Michigan College pursuing a degree in Musical Theater.
She is survived by her mother and father, Matthew and Janine (Rigg) Loughrin, brother, Joey Loughrin, grandmother, Annabelle Dee Rigg, three uncles, Timothy (Tamara) Loughrin, Christopher (Susan) Loughrin and Theodore (Sue) Rigg, six cousins, Caleb, Natalya, Owen, Kieran, Jamie and Josie, along with many extended family members.
There will be a memorial service held for Sierra Sunday, July 2, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. at Falan Field in Paw Paw, 119 Paw Paw Road, behind Paw Paw Middle School. Memorial contributions in memory of Sierra may be directed to her brother's college fund by using the link below.
