Sidney Ronald Mitchell, a dedicated servant to the Michigan State Police, passed away in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on March 10, 2024. Born in Reed City, Michigan, on October 16, 1930, to George F. Mitchell and Maxine (Stahl) Mitchell, Sidney lived a life full of service, love, joy and adventure.
Sidney's commitment to serving his community was evident throughout his career as a Lieutenant in the Michigan State Police, where he served at five different posts over the years. His dedication to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of others will always be remembered and cherished.
Before his service in law enforcement, Sidney also bravely served in the Navy for four years after high school. His patriotism and willingness to defend his country were values that he carried with him throughout his life.
Outside of his professional duties, Sidney was known for his love of the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in activities like hunting and fishing. Nature held a special place in his heart, and he spent countless hours appreciating its beauty and tranquility.
On November 15, 1955, in Reed City, MI, he married Artie Ruth Mitchell who preceded in death July 16, 2018.
He is survived by his two daughters, Joni (Buddy) Bell of Paw Paw, MI, Mary Beth (Larry) Wolthuis of Mattawan, MI; six grandchildren, Greg (Ashlee) Wolthuis, Bradley J. Bell, Lindsay (Jacob) Dragicevich, Amanda (Eric) Lanting, Jill (Dyer) Goosen, Amy Ruth (Chris) Bell Agdanowski; six great-grandchildren, Jaynee Dragicevich, Weslyn Dragicevich, Dylan Lanting, Will Wolthuis, Case Lanting, Cole Dragicevich; one sister, Wanda (John) Lehr; and one brother, George (Karen) Mitchell.
Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Don Mitchell and Bill Mitchell.
The impact that Sidney had on all who knew him will never be forgotten. His kindness, strength of character, and unwavering dedication to those he loved leave an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends.
Services to honor and celebrate the life of Sidney will be held at Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw on March 21, 2024. A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 AM with Rev. Len Schoenherr officiating. Following services, there will be a time of food and fellowship hosted at the funeral home.
