Shirley Marie White

Shirley Marie White, 92, of South Haven, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024, at Bronson Commons in Mattawan. 

She was born March 6, 1932, in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of William Verran and Bertha (Stroh) Verran.

Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Huron Farms in Decatur. Her attention to detail and knack for organization made her very well respected and cherished at her job. Putting her skills to use, she created and maintained meticulous family records and photos dating back many years. Shirley loved to travel the world and took her camper all over the United States and Mexico. Her favorite destination was Germany to spend time with family there. She also enjoyed the local destinations as well, as she spent many days relaxing on the beach of Lake Michigan. 

On August 28, 1953, in Chicago, IL, she married Gerald Joseph White who preceded in death July 31, 2014.

She is survived by her grandson, Jesse Lee White; great-granddaughter, Rylie Lee White; her daughter, Tanya Klasser, brother, Robert Verran and many nieces and nephews. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald; sons, Gerald White Jr. and Jack White; granddaughter, Traci White-Karstetter; brothers, William "Bill", Williard and Marshall Verran and sisters, Eleanor "Sis" Verran-Stamm and Marilyn Verran-Turner. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Decatur VFW Post, 560 N. Phelps Street, Decatur. Shirley will be laid to rest at Lakeside Cemetery in Decatur.
