Shirle passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at White Oaks in Lawton. Shirle was born May 29, 1920 in Chicago, IL to the late Anthony and Amelia (Hoppe) Gates. She was a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King in the Episcopal Church, long time member of the Lawrence Literary Club, and lifetime member of the Lawrence Garden Club. In November of 2007 Shirle was united in marriage to her loving husband, Richard Winters who preceded her in death on June 17, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Raoul Vannier. Surviving are a daughter, Niki (Chuck) Conklin of Canton, IL; son, Raoul Forrest (Kathy) Vanier of Torrington, WY; grandchildren, William Anthony (Becky) Gohs of Eureka, IL, Aimee (Wayne) Downing of Lowell, MI, Seth Vanier of Torrington, WY; great grandchildren, Erin Groom, Blake Groom, Emily Downing, Maggie and Jamie Gohs. Per her wishes cremation has taken place and no public services are scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan or to charity of your choice.
