Russell Lloyd Young, 87, of Portage, passed away peacefully Friday, January 3, 2025, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.
He was born October 31, 1937, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of J. Lloyd Young and Marion B. Allen.
Russell was an active member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He worked as the Director of Building and Grounds at Mattawan Consolidated Schools for 30 years. Russell was a talented square dance caller and a longtime participant of Western Style Square Dancing.
He is survived by his two daughters, Tess (John) Gooch and Amy (Don) McNally; two sons, Russell (Angel) Young and Chuck Wendling; four grandchildren, Cassie Wendling, Hannah Wendling, Jeremy (Katherine) McNally and Colleen McNally; two nephews, Jim Purcell and Scott (Joanna) Kellogg and niece, Ann (Ken Baron) Kellogg.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Frances Marie (Klobucher) Young on January 13, 2021, daughter, Mary Wendling; brother, John Young, sister. Polly Young and niece, Mary Purcell.
Mass of Christian Burial was held for Russell at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He was laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mattawan.
