Roy Meyer led a truly extraordinary life that revolved around his faith, family, friends and generosity to others. Roy's life began February 23, 1947, in Stambaugh, Michigan, where he was born the son of the late Donald Meyer and Marilyn (Zyskowski ) Meyer. On June 28, 1969, he married the love of his life, Adele (Tarsi) Meyer in Iron River, Michigan. Roy graduated from Western Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. In 1970, he began working in Lawrence where he was an Industrial Education Teacher, retiring after 28 years in 1998. During his time teaching, Roy started his woodworking business in the garage of the family home. After two years of being in business, Roy began renting the back portion of the original Ace Hardware store in town. As his business continued to grow, Roy finally built Meyer Wood Products at the current location on Red Arrow Highway in 1983. For over 43 years, Roy and all of his family members have played a significant role in the continued success of the family business. Roy's life revolved around his family. His motto was "work hard, play hard, be surrounded by family. It's the Meyer way". Following their 50th wedding anniversary, Roy and Adele, along with their family, celebrated this milestone by taking a cruise to Alaska. The Paw Paw community and surrounding communities were very special to Roy. He believed in giving back to the community and staying involved. Roy donated his time and materials to many community organizations and events. He would generously donate wood to build floats for parades and picnic tables for people to sit and visit at. Roy's generosity also carried over to the area schools where he was a sponsor of the athletics, including little league baseball and soccer. He also sponsored many events like golf outings, to help others in need. In 2008, Roy was awarded the Paw Paw Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award and in 2019 he received the Paw Paw Area Rotary "Pride Award" recognizing the pride and dedication Roy demonstrated to his community.
