RICHARD ALLEN MUDD, 75, passed away peacefully at the Bronson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lawton, MI on April 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with Alzheimers and cancer. He was a former resident of both Portage, MI and South Bend, IN. Born in South Haven, MI on July 26, 1936 to Ambrose Richard and Helen (Quinn) Mudd. He spent much of his time on its beaches as well as attending South Haven High School and later Western Michigan University. Richard married Marylu E. Atherton and then later, Pamela (Estes) Matheson, deceased in 1999. He was a Kalamazoo firefighter and an insurance adjuster until he found his true passion as a collectibles dealer. He spent much of his later life canvassing Michigan searching for treasurers. Richard was fond of all animals (especially dogs), reading about extraterrestrial life, and dreamed of being an astronaut. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister's Charlene Thompson and Jeanne Gulliver of South Haven, MI. He is survived by his loving companion Ms. Bonnie Anderson of South Bend, IN; his loving daughter Mary K. Hayden of Alaska and son Richard M. (Kim) Mudd from Baltimore, MD, as well as his devoted stepchildren; David W. (Susan) Matheson, Janet (Tim) LaVasseur, and Laura (Norman) Hamann of the Kalamazoo area, and six grandchildren; Connor Hayden, Andrew, Alexander and Abigail Mudd, David and Andrea LaVasseur as well as his cousin Larry Diebold of Fredricksburg, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (chapel) on Wednesday April 25, 2012 at 5:00 PM. Arrangements by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
