Dick passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his sister's home in O Fallon, Missouri. He was born August 2, 1921 in Almena Township the son of the late Nicholas and Helen (Bolinger) Gancer. After graduating from the Paw Paw High School Class of 1939, Dick served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. For a period of time Dick was employed by the U.S. Department of Fish and Game and worked at the fish hatchery on M-43. He was employed by the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company in Kalamazoo until his retirement in 1993. Dick was also a cattle farmer and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and bowling. He was a member of the Almena United Methodist Church and the American Legion, McGowan-Johnson Post # 68, Paw Paw. Surviving are 2 sisters, Virginia (Donald ) Eber of St. Peters, MO and Janice (John) Rankin of St. Joseph, MI; brother, Charles "Chick" (Kathleen) Gancer of Clinton, NC; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service for Dick at the Almena Cemetery on Monday, April 22, at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Donna Keyte officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Almena United Methodist Church.
