Paw Paw

Richard “Dick” Forbes,  passed away unexpectedly, Nov. 20, 2019. Dick was a lifelong resident of Paw Paw, having graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1962.

During an enrollment in the  Air Force, he met his future wife, Diana, who became his lifelong mate of over 54 years.  After being discharged  from the  Air Force, Dick worked at The Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo,   from which he retired. Following his retirement from Upjohn, he drove many years for the local Star Bus system. Many may recognize him, regardless of the weather, being cold or warm out, he always wore shorts. Dick and Diana had many adventures around the country, traveling to many different destinations, mainly national parks and visiting family throughout the United States.

Dick had many passions, being a member of the high school band, he was voted most musical. He had a passion for photography, having a darkroom in his home. He developed and contributed many photos  of Paw Paw sporting events to The Courier-Leader, Paw Paw’s  weekly newspaper. Dick bowled many years in the Upjohn bowling league, and was actively  involved coaching both his daughter and son in bowling and other sports. He loved to golf. During his travels he played golf all over the country. He cherished golfing with his family and friends, especially his brother, Bill, and Bill’s wife, Jean.

Dick also had a passion for anything Blue, that is to say, he was a lifelong fan of the University of Michigan. He enjoyed many a game being a season ticket holder for the football team for over 30 years.

Dick loved his family, as well. He and his brother, Mike, were adopted by Julius and Lola Forbes. He is survived by his loving wife, Diana; their children, Kristin and Richard; four grandchildren, James, Brittany, Trent and Travis; and his brother, Bill.

He wished to have no funeral in his honor. There is however, a memorial being planned to celebrate his life. Arrangements are tentatively planned for the spring of 2020. In regards to offer support and ideas, feel free to contact his daughter, Kristin Forbes-Gibbons, or his son, Richard Forbes, Jr., both of whom can be found on Facebook.
