Philip Michael Shannon

Philip Michael Shannon went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 1, 2022. He was born in Springfield, OH, on March 28, 1941, to Vernal and Faith (Bedford) Shannon. His childhood was spent in many different states, as his family moved often. Philip graduated from high school in Detroit, MI, and joined the Coast Guard, serving from 1963 to 1967.
He met Mary Jane Oosterhouse at Bethel Baptist Church in Kalamazoo, MI, and married her on May 2, 1964. A daughter, Catherine was born in 1966 and a son, Michael, arrived in 1969. They built a house and settled in Paw Paw, MI. Philip worked for IBM, Huntington Laboratories and was self-employed. His interests were in gardening, operating the sound system at church and studying his Bible.
Philip and Mary celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2014 when they lived in Menifee, CA, following retirement. They moved back to Michigan and lived many years at White Oaks Retirement Residence in Lawton, before transferring to Edgewood Health and Rehabilitation in Three Rivers.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers-in-law. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary, a daughter, Catherine (Kurt) Lucas, a son, Michael (Marsha) Shannon, many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great great grandchildren, a sister, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone who gave excellent care to Philip.
Cremation has taken place, there will be a memorial gathering held at a later date. Philip will be placed to rest at Mount Ever Rest Memorial Park South, Kalamazoo, MI.
