Michael Sean Kerns

Michael Sean Kerns, 52, passed away peacefully at his home on April 14, 2025. Mike was born on February 8, 1973, in East Grand Rapids, MI the son of Gerald and Diane (Nimtz) Kerns.

Mike is a proud graduate of Paw Paw High School and Davenport University. His career was on the railroad, and he dedicated many years to Michigan Southern Railroad as general manager and at Grand Elk Railroad as a locomotive engineer and conductor, which is where he retired. His final years were spent working for Leco Corporation in St. Joseph. He enjoyed his time there with his friendly co-workers and wonderful staff.

In his spare time, Mike enjoyed attending model train shows. He also had a prized train layout and built many model train cars. He was an enthusiastic Chicago Cubs fan and could often be found wearing his Cubs hat and shirts. He loved nature and especially liked taking pictures of Lake Michigan. He also spent a lot of time traveling and took cruises to Cozumel, the Mayan Peninsula and Cabo San Lucas.

Mike was a kindhearted, loyal, and wonderful son, brother and grandson. He loved his family dearly and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his mother, Diane Kerns of Paw Paw; father, Gerald Kerns of Lawton; brother, Matthew (Melissa) Kerns of Paw Paw; nephews, Kaden Kerns, Kortlend Moore and Alex Kerns and cousins, Tammy (Peter) Hauch, Laura Hauch, Robert Hauch, Barbara (Dick) Danner, Penny Alderson and Ray Price.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Eleanor Nimtz and Elmer and Mariam Kerns, as well as his beloved aunt, Sandra Stick and great-aunt, Dorothy Price.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw. Mike will be laid to rest privately at Riverside Cemetery in Chikaming Township next to his Aunt Sandra.
