Mary Ellen passed away Saturday morning, June 30, 2012 at the home of her son. She was born June 19, 1922 in Findley, Ohio the daughter of the late Kenneth A. and Katherine (Leathers) Metzker. Mel was a very active in her community during her life time. She was a member of the Ypsilanti Friends of the Library, Ypsilanti Township Zoning Board and Planning Committee, Hospital Auxiliaries in Ypsilanti, Kalamazoo, and extremely active in the League of Women Voters in regard to the State Wide Constitutional Convention 1960. Mel and her husband Dr. Victor Zerbi, M.D. worked together in a campership program giving youth physicals so young under privilege children could go to camp. On Feb. 4, 1943 in Ann Arbor, Mel was united in marriage to Dr. Victor Zerbi who preceded her in death on March 9, 1991. Surviving are 2 sons, Victor M. (Sandra) Zerbi of Glenwood Springs, CO, and James E. Zerbi of Paw Paw; MI; 2 brothers: Glen (Marcell) Metzker of Austin, TX and John (Patsy) Metzker of Traverse City, MI; 3 granddaughters, Merida Zerbi, Michelle and Nicole Zerbi; many nieces and nephews; former daughter -in-law, Christine B, Zerbi of Kalamazoo who was very helpful in the care of Mel in her final illness. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7th , 11 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan or to the Nature Conservancy.
