Mary Ann Theaker, 77, of Mattawan, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at Bronson Commons in Mattawan. She was born April 25, 1937 in Chapin, Michigan, the daughter of Carl and Gertrude (Robb) Maynard. Mary was a 1955 graduate and valedictorian of Elsie High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Education from Taylor University. She was a teacher at John Pierce Junior High School in Waterford and later joined the ministry with her husband, Bill. She and Bill were united in marriage July 8, 1961 in Chapin, Michigan. Their 47 years in the ministry took them around the state and they retired from Valley View Bible Church in Kalamazoo, where she was also the organist. Mary enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her giving spirit was a blessing to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rev. William Theaker, of Mattawan; three children, Deborah (Alton) Laupp of Paw Paw, Melanie DeVolder of Denver, CO, and Philip (Virginia) Theaker of White Lake; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth George of Henderson, MI and brother, Robb (Mary Lou) Maynard of Chapin, MI.
Family and friends will be received Saturday (1/10) from 3-5 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw, where funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. , Rev. Dr. Orville Theaker officiating. A luncheon at New Hope Fellowship will follow. She will be laid to rest at Silver Lake Cemetery, Wolverine, Michigan in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to:
