Margaret passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 13, 2013 with her family at her side. She is now in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Margaret was born October 16, 1927 in Coleman, MI, the daughter of the late Rev. James and Virginia (Conklin) Bowker. She had many fond memories of growing up with her sister Ruth. Some of her favorite memories include swimming at Fisher Lake, singing Christmas carols, playing with their dog, Muggins, collecting scrap metal for the war effort and teaching first aid with her dad. Margaret met her husband, Dave, of 63 years in sixth grade while playing croquet at a Ladies Aid picnic. Margaret graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1945. She obtained a BA in Sociology from Albion College, a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, and a teaching certificate in reading from Western Michigan University. Dave and Margaret were married August 13, 1950 with Margaret's dad Rev. James Bowker performing the ceremony. In 1954 they moved to Paw Paw where Dave joined the Paw Paw Medical Group and worked as a Family Practice Physician. Margaret was a Title I Reading Teacher for the Paw Paw Public Schools for 23 years, retiring in 1989. Margaret's priorities were her family, her faith and friends. She was parent advisor for the Van Buren Folk dancers, an active member of the United Methodist Church, and a board member of the Paw Paw District Library. Margaret is survived by her Husband, David J. Millard, M.D. of Paw Paw, MI, her four children Nancy (Brian) Huntsman, of Flemington, NJ, Carol (Darrell) Roose of Portage, MI, Vicki (James) McElheny of St. Charles, Mo., and Bill (Susie) Millard of Grand Rapids, MI.; eight grandchildren Kelli and Joshua Huntsman, Michelle and Kevin Roose, Kirk and Teri McElheny, and David and Nathaniel Millard. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth (William) Breyfogle of Kalamazoo, MI and two nieces and one nephew. Family will receive friends Tuesday (12/17) 5 to 7 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church with Rev. Trevor McDermont officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers. Memorial contributions may be made to Paw Paw United Methodist Church, Paw Paw District Library, Southwest Michigan Hospice, or charity of choice.
