Margaret Mary "Margie" Brown (Dunneback) passed away unexpectedly in Bronson Hospital on 10/16/2021 in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the age of 67.
Margie is survived by her children: James Singleton II “Jim”, Joseph (Tina) Singleton “Joe”, Jason Brown, and Jillian (Seth) Taylor and four grandchildren: Brandon, Lauren, Dorothea, and Raina. She was awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandchild, Juliet. She is also survived by her siblings: Karen Chickering, Judy Smith, and her nephews, nieces and cousins.
Margie was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Phyllis and Joseph Dunneback. She grew up on the family farm, in the Ridge Community, where she enjoyed picking strawberries, apples and gathering eggs as a child. She graduated from Kenowa Hills High School in 1972 and then went on to attain her nursing degree (LPN) from Grand Rapids Community College. While she was in nursing school, she married James Singleton in 1972 and had her first two children, Jim and Joe. She went on to remarry in 1984 to Keith Brown and had two children: Jason and Jillian. After moving to Lawton, Michigan, Margie began working for Westside Family Medical Center as a nurse. She worked for WFMC for over 30 years.
When Margie was attending nursing school, she worked night shifts at a florist (Flowerland) so that she could give Jim and Joe the best possible childhood they could have - this is also where she developed her love for gardening. People who were close to Margie remember her as someone who loved to make things grow - whether it was the people around her or the flowers around her house. If things ever started to wilt around her (her plants or problems going on in the lives of her friends and family), she always knew how to support them and bring things back to life.
Margie also loved the holidays. Her family will forever remember seeing all of her Christmas villages, ghosts hanging in her trees, and pumpkins around the living room while they enjoyed breakfast with their mom over every holiday.
A celebration of Margie’s life will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Red Brick Hall (301 N Main Street, Lawton, MI). All are welcome to attend and celebrate with the family.
