Lucille passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2011 at White Oaks Assisted Living Center in Lawton. Lu was born in Muskegon, MI on August 20, 1910. She attended Michigan State Univesity where she met and married Jerry Mandigo, who passed away in 1960. In 1973, Lu was united in marriage to Dr. Charles TenHouten who preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Paw Paw Coterie Club, Van Buren County Historical Society and was a volunteer at the LakeView Hospital gift shop. Many area residents knew Lu as "The Strawberry Lady", due in part to the U Pick Strawberry Patch that she started in the 1950's under the name of Mandigo Farms. Lu was respected for her honesty and hard work ethics. She enjoyed being with her family and extended family. Lucille is survived by 2 sons, Alan and Jerry Mandigo; 1 daughter, Mary (Joe) Foster; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 4 step-children; many nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her 1st and 2nd husbands, as well as 1 brother, Lewis Wasserman. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends Friday, April 15th from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Paw Paw where a memorial service will follow the visitation at 12 noon. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Hospice of Southwest Michigan or the Van Buren County Youth Camp. Arrangements are by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
