Lu passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 in Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo. She was born February 3, 1920 in Paris, France the daughter of the late Edmund and Suzanne (Ripault) Scherrer. She was a young women when the Germans occupied Paris in June of 1940. She was trained in shorthand and typing and was employed by a transportation company that ran barges on France's network of rivers and canals. After the German occupation she continued to work for the company under German control. After the war she came to American as a war bride moving to Chicago, Skokie, IL and then Almena Township in 1957. Employed as a bookkeeper, she was very dependable and always right to the penny. Lu enjoyed going out to dinner with friends, talking about her life during the German occupation in her home town of Paris, France and would speak some French at times then grinning ear to ear translating it in English. Surviving are a nephew, Duane Bader of Ohio and many close friends. She enjoyed all animals, watching and feeding birds and turkey's as well as feeding the deer with bread and vegetables. A memorial service will be held Friday, 11:30 a.m. at the Almena United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Keyte officiating. A light luncheon will follow. Interment of cremains will be in Almena Cemetery. Arrangements by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
