Louis C. Barkovich, 90, of Paw Paw, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday January 18, 2025, in Paw Paw.
He was born August 8, 1934, in Paw Paw, Michigan, the son of Charles Barkovich and Helen (Siskaninetz) Barkovich.
Louis proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Era. After his honorable discharge, he was a lifelong member of the American Legion McGowan-Johnson Post #68 of Paw Paw, Paw Paw Lions Club and the Snowmobile Association of MSA. Louis worked for Consumers Energy as a lead lineman for 40 years and was a proud Union member. He played a crucial role in the establishment of the little league fields in Paw Paw and the start of the Paw Paw Youth Baseball Program. Due to his dedication and effort, he was inducted into the Paw Paw Hall of Fame in 2003, which was an honor he cherished. He also received the Lion of the Year award and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Paw Paw Lions Club.
On October 6, 1954, in Paw Paw, he married the love of his life, Gloria (Coombs) Barkovich, who survives him. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
He is also survived by his children, Michael Barkovich, Terry (Mollie) Barkovich and Karen (David) O'Briant; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sister, Sally (Allan) Hughes and brother, George (Joyce) Barkovich.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Bill Nelson and daughter-in-law, Michelle Barkovich.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 with Jim Abshagen officiating. Louis will be laid to rest at Saint Mary Cemetery in Paw Paw at a later date.
