Loretta Ann Kanwischer, 90, of Paw Paw, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 peacefully at home.
She was born May 30, 1931 in Chicago, the daughter of the late John Menzor and Anna (Bukausky) Menzor.
Raising her five children kept Loretta on the go. She always enjoyed keeping busy and active. Over the years she worked a variety of jobs including Lawrence Public Schools where she was a secretary, she then went to work at Frontenac Winery for a time. Loretta then took a break from work and was a homemaker. She later decided to return to work and began working at Di Janco's Restaurant and then retired from the Van Buren County court house. In addition to working, she was active with the Cub Scouts and worked in the school cafeteria. She has been a longtime active parishioner at Saint Mary Church and often would bake and help with funeral luncheons. Loretta loved taking pictures and always liked having a silly prop in many photos. Loretta enjoyed playing cards with family especially grandchildren. Although Loretta never managed to take a hot air balloon ride, she had a love hot air balloons. Some hobbies she took pride in include her collection of Santa Clauses and working with her flowers and around her garden. In previous years, she enjoyed going bowling and card clubs with lady friends.
On October 8, 1955, in Paw Paw, Loretta married LeRoy Kanwischer who preceded her in death November 25, 2011.
Loretta is survived by her five children, Diana (Martin) Haselberger, Ken Kanwischer, Vicky (Ben) Babcock, Stephen (Lisa) Kanwischer and Daniel (Holly) Kanwischer, 11 grandchildren: Christine, Erica, and Wayne (Storm) Haselberger, Sara (Joe) Councell, Shawn (Ben) Schmidt, Chase Babcock, Stephanie (Derek) Drushel, Michael Kanwischer, Kara Weber, Kyle and Kurt Kanwischer, and six great grandchildren: Gabriel and Mira Councell, Korra Schmidt, Wesley, Wade, and Whitley Weber, sister in law, Lonna Menzor, brothers in law Norman Kanwischer and Leo (Jean) Kanwischer along with many nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her brother, John R. Menzor.
Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw, where a rosary service will commence at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will follow on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Paw Paw, with Fr. Richard Altine officiating. Burial will conclude at Saint Mary Cemetery.
