Leroy James Moyle, 93, of Kalamazoo, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023.
He was born December 12, 1929, in Mattawan, the son of Norman Moyle and Lydia (Buttolph) Moyle.
Roy enjoyed a 35-year career with the Upjohn Company, where he worked as a boiler mechanic, retiring in 1989. He was the proud recipient of the Upjohn Award for advancing the efficiency of his department. With his siblings all living in close proximity, the families enjoyed gatherings on a regular basis. He and three of his siblings got their pilots licenses and purchased a Taylorcraft Airplane. They all enjoyed flying around the local area. Roy was a true farm boy at heart. He loved farming his land where he gardened and raised crops and birds. He was gifted with mechanical skills and electronics. Roy liked to fix radios and TVs and even built his own television set many years back. In addition to electronics, he enjoyed working on cars and for Ralph Moyle Inc., working on refrigeration systems for trailers. Some would say Roy kept Sweetwater's in business with his love for anything sweet.
He was an avid collector of toy trucks, clocks, and in later years, Roy enjoyed international travel. His international friendships were formed when he joined an exchange program at Western Michigan University. Roy became longtime friends with several of the students and enjoyed trips overseas to celebrate some of their milestones.
Roy is survived by his wife Janice (Ballett) Moyle of 66 years.
He is also survived by his daughter, Denise Jacobs of Lawton, his son, Brian (Lauren) Moyle of Florida; brother, Harry Moyle of Mattawan; sister-in-law, Marlene Moyle of Kalamazoo, four grandchildren, Erin Buhl, Stephane Smith, Zachary Moyle and Alex Moyle; three great-grandchildren, Landon Buhl, Carter Buhl and Ramona Smith.
Leroy was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Moyle and Norman Jim Moyle, Jr., and one sister, Edith Boyle.
