Lee Roy Miles, age 93, of Paw Paw passed away Monday evening, June 6, 2016 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veteran’s. Lee was born July 2, 1922 in Peabody, Kansas the son of the late Roy and Ida (Breaky) Miles. Lee had joined the Civilian Conservation Corps until he was honorably discharged in 1942. Lee was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater earning 4 battler stars in the liberation of the Philippines. He served with the 100th Infantry regiment, 40 Infantry Division and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received on Luzon in February 1945. Lee was a member of the American Legion, McGowan-Johnson Post # 68, Paw Paw and enjoyed fishing, camping, bingo, casino’s, bowling, and dining out. On February 6, 1946 in Kalamazoo, Lee was united in marriage to Edna June Merritt who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ken, Clarence and Bob Miles; 2 sisters, Alice Miles and Margaret Cross; grandson and spouse James and Deborah Goodwin. Surviving are a daughter Connie (Ronald) Goodwin of Paw Paw; son. James (Paula) Miles of Lawton; daughter, Bonnie (Jerry) Wright of Black Duck, MN; 7 grandchildren, Bonnie (Jeff) Stuut, Heather (Fahad Bin-Mahfouz) Miles, Jamie (Kearston) Miles, Holly (Tony) Wilkins, Rocky Wright, Scotty (Carisa) Wright and Rachel Wright; 15 great grandchildren, Katie (Paul) Jeschke, Kayla (Bryan Peterson) Stuut, McKenzie Wright, Jordan Wright, Danielle Goodwin, Amirah Bin-Mahfouz, Abrar Bin-Mahfouz, Fasial Bin-Mahfouz, Emma Wright, Ashtin Wright, Taylor Wright, Camden Miles, Keagan Miles, Eliott Miles, and Atlas Lee Miles; 2 Great Great Grandchildren, Skylli Wright, Reed Jeschke; many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Thursday evening (June 9) 6 to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Ever-Rest Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Avenue, NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
