Lawrence Fred Waldrop

Lawrence Fred Waldrop, 74, of Lawrence, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 at his home.

Fred was born in Berrien Center on September 2, 1947, to the late Louis Wells Waldrop and Annie Ruth (Brown) Waldrop. He retired from the U.S. Navy after years of service. It was in the Navy that Fred was able to express his love and passion for the kitchen. He prepared meals for many famous individuals during his time of service. Upon his return home, Fred shared his talent in the kitchen and at various restaurants around Michigan. He finally settled back in VanBuren County, where he finished his career as a cook at the Grapevine Grill. While working in Decatur, he met Tina Durden, who he would later ask to be his wife. Fred also took great pride in his huge tomato, onion and pepper garden at his home. With these items, he made amazing salsa that everyone enjoyed! In addition to his passion for cooking, Fred will also be remembered for his ability to repair just about anything. His wide scope of mechanical knowledge spanned from automobiles, computers to lawnmowers. Fred will be missed by his many friends in the community and his loving family.

On August 14, 1992 he married Tina (Durden) Waldrop who survives.

He is also survived by his three sons, Edward (Traci) Waldrop, Tony (Emily) Waldrop and Jeffrey (Breanna) Taylor; two daughters, Deanna (Rick) Straup and  Dannell Peterson; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, James (Paula) Waldrop.

Fred was preceded in death by his son, Jacob Durden, along with six siblings.

Funeral services for Fred will take place Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave., Paw Paw. Following services, friends and family will visit until 8:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. Graveside services will take place Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, with military honors.
