Julius H. Schaefer, age 86, of Lawton, passed away peacefully with his wife and family at his side April 5, 2017 at Bronson Commons. He was born in Long Island, New York, on September 7, 1930. He is survived by his loving wife Carole (Long), whom he was united in marriage to on March 23, 1952. Also surviving are his five children, Paul (Carla) Schaefer, Keith Schaefer, David (Becky) Schaefer, Ronald (Susan) Schaefer and Gary Schaefer, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and his brother, Bern (Diane) Mann. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his brother, John Schaefer. Julius served as Corporal in the Army and was a USCG licensed Charter Boat Captain on Lake Michigan for several years. He was actively involved in the community and his church. He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, East Van Buren Seniors and a longtime member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church. Julius loved to travel, going on camping trips and fishing. He had a talent for photography and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, 63855 M40 Lawton. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wayne McKenney officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church.
