Julian E. “Ed” Hamilton, 92, of Lawton passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, August 27, 2022.
Ed was born in Marshville, North Carolina to Fred and Julia Maude (Thomas) Hamilton. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1954 as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist/Crew Chief and later served in the Michigan Air National Guard in similar roles. Ed was especially proud of his service as a member of the 53rd Airlift Squadron, delivering aid to German civilians during the Berlin Airlift from 1948 to 1949. As a civilian, he worked as a Quality Control Specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense, retiring in 1985. Ed attended Marshville, North Carolina public schools and was a graduate of Paw Paw High School.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his seven siblings, and his beloved wife of 59 years, Mildred Hamilton. He is survived by his three children, David (Tracey) Hamilton of West Olive, Susan Connelly of Kalamazoo, and Christopher (Norma) Hamilton of Lawton. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Angela, Jenny, and Joshua Hamilton.
Ed was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lawton, with visitation an hour before the service. A luncheon at the church will follow the service. A private burial will take place at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Talons Out Honor Flight, Inc. or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lawton.
