Joseph F. X. Couture, 74, of Portage, MI passed away peacefully on September 26, 2014 at home surrounded by loving family members. He was born April 24, 1940 in Pontiac, MI, the first son of the late William Joseph and Angelus Elizabeth Couture. He was preceded in death by his father, William, and his mother, Angie, his older sister, Margaret Peterson and his younger brother, Robert Couture. He grew up in the Pontiac area and lived in the Petosky, Grand Rapids and the Kalamazoo areas during his lifetime. He worked as a tool and die maker/journeyman for Bentler Industries, Galesburg, MI until retirement. He is survived by his sons, Joseph F. X. Couture, III and Michael L. (Gail) Couture and his grandson, Joshua M. L. Couture. Also surviving are 3 step daughters from his second marriage; Heidi Davis, Nancy Grieser and Brixie Keckler; 3 step daughters from his final marriage to Marilyn K. Couture, Elizabeth S. Adams and grandchildren, Kristin and Austin; Stacy K. (Derrick) Schmittling and grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica and Nicholas; Marilyn K. (Daniel) Sprague and grandchildren, Anneliza, Colton and Loren; brother, William (Barbara) Couture; two sisters, Jeannette (Richard) Charles and Marie (Rodney) Crane. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Joseph loved life. He enjoyed it on the land hunting and camping, on water fishing, boating and scuba diving and in the air during flights to Italy, Germany and Myrtle Beach. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and family reunions. He loved babies, children and good people, good food and good wine. He loved Luna, golfing, pecan pie and salmon. He loved life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Milham Park, Kalamazoo, MI from 1pm to 4pm. Bring Joe's "favorite" dish to pass and pictures you would like to share.
