Our precious Mother, Josefa Rangel Romo, went to her eternal home in Heaven on January 10, 2023 at 2:05pm. She passed peacefully surrounded by her most treasured blessings; her children.
Josefa, who went by Josie, was born on September 28, 1933 in Schleicher, Texas. Josie was one of eight children.
Josie was attending a dance with her family when she met the love of her life, Daniel S. Romo. Daniel scouted the room until his eyes fell upon the most beautiful girl, Josie. He asked her to dance and that was the start of their life together. The two of them then moved to Michigan soon after they were married. This was not easy for Josie to leave her mama, her papa, and siblings, as her family was everything she knew and loved. Being the devoted wife that she was, Josie knew that she had to make this sacrifice. This was only the beginning to the testimony of her life as the courageous, strong young woman that she was. Josie came to Michigan speaking fluent Spanish, however she was determined to learn the English language. With great determination it only took Josie a few months before she was reading, writing and speaking English. Not only did Josie learn the English language on her very own, but she had also taught herself how to drive. She would practice driving in an open field behind her home in Paw Paw. When she applied for her Michigan Driver’s License, she passed it on her first attempt.
During mom’s down time she would love to read, thrift, cook and watch the Dallas Cowboys. Our unforgettable memories as her children was always having full bellies on our mother’s delicious home cooked meals. She loved cooking for us whenever she could and being able to have her children around the table.
Josie had many challenges in her lifetime, however faced each one with resilience, determination and complete trust in God thru it all. No matter the obstacle she endured, her unwavering love and devotion for her family remained her focus and in so many ways she was able to show that love to her children. Josie strived and perfected her role as a Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She had the most beautiful soul and was quick to forgive others. Her words that she lived by were, “One day at a time, sweet Jesus!”.
All who knew Josefa Rangel Romo can surely agree that of all things she loved most in life, her family is what she treasured the most. Her children never will doubt the beautiful, unconditional love that she held for each and every one of them. Her children can testify, “They were all her favorite!”. She leaves behind an unforgettable legacy, which is the unconditional love for her children. Her devotion and heart for her family will forever be an inspiration to each of her loved ones.
