John Chester Hunt, 80, of Paw Paw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. John was a loving man who cherished family gatherings and social interactions.
John is survived by his sons Steven and Jeff, daughter-in-law Elaine, stepdaughter Patty, and grandchildren Katrina, Brandon, Brandon, Steven, and Jordan. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Hunt.
Born on November 1, 1944, he graduated from Montrose High School, where he was a track athlete, winning several track medals and varsity letters.
During the Vietnam War, John served his country overseas. He was stationed in Germany with the Heavy Materials Company (633), where he operated various military equipment, including tanks.
John owned and operated South West Survey Company for over 40 years. He had a passion for land surveying and teaching others about the trade and the importance of it.
John loved his old cars, gardening, and relaxing in his gazebo. He enjoyed traveling, attending car shows, and being in the company of friends. He had a special bond with his Ragdoll cat, "Baby," who provided companionship after his wife’s passing.
A viewing will be held at Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw, MI, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside ceremony at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to cancer research organizations.
John's kindness and zest for life will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
