Janet Jean Alger, 81, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Friday December 15, 2023, at her home. She is finally able to breathe freely without the help of medicinal oxygen.
She was born April 8, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Harry Shiparski and Emma (Krajewski) Shiparski.
Janet enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets to gift to her family. She liked to go on camping trips with her family, play darts, go have fun at the various casinos and spend time with her friends. Janet adored her dogs and spoiled them. She also bred boxer dogs for a while. Janet was known for being an excellent cook. She never stopped learning and participating in the activities she loved. In fact, in her later years, she learned how to fly a plane! Janet was a "spit fire" who was always full of energy. She was also a woman full of strength and resilience, Janet was able to beat cancer twice and persevered through many health challenges. Despite this, she never lost her true sense of self and continued to be a rock for her family to lean on.
She is survived by her four daughters; Danita Udvardy, Dawn Amazzalorso, Deanne Amazzalorso and Amber Papesh, sister; Jerry (late Clem) Gabry and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, son; Chris Slenczka, and sister; Juanita Hackworth.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Adams Funeral Home., with Rev. Ron Packer officiating. Interment will follow at Wildey Cemetery.
