James Robert Tibbitts, age 84, of Mattawan, passed away Monday December 2, 2019 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo.
He was born September 5, 1935 in Galesburg, the son of the late Wilbur Tibbitts and Cletus (Prough) Tibbitts.
Jim was a Longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Paw Paw. He served his country in the Army, and enjoyed playing sports in his high school years and was an avid Michigan sports fan. Jim enjoyed golfing and took pride in maintaining his yard and garden. Most of all, Jim enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
On, June 29, 1962 in Kalamazoo, he married Dixie Louise (Nower) Tibbitts who survives.
He is also survived by his two daughters, Terri (Michael) Gibson and Julie (David) Barrasso; son, James Tibbitts; two Grandchildren, Brett (Nick) Toman and Nicholas Barrasso; two Great-Grandchildren, Natalie Toman and Mackenzie Toman; sister, Sandra (Gary) Denton; along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
James was preceded in death by his brother, Sonny Tibbitts, brother, Jack Tibbitts, sister, Beverly Knetsch.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 2019, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 721 Pine Street, Paw Paw, Saturday December 7, 2019 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ronald Moritz and Rev. Phillip Phifer officiating. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will take place at the church. Interment will conclude at the Hartwick Cemetery, Mattawan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
