James "Paw Paw Jim" went home to be with his Lord and savior on Monday, December 31, 2012 at his home on Three Mile Lake with his loving wife by his side. Jim was born March 17, 1947 in Owensboro, KY the son of the late Moses and Rebecca (Cook) Stewart. He retired after 33 years from Inland Steel and went on to work for the last 5 years as a bus driver for the VBISD. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid outdoorsman and truly loved life. He was also very involved with the Boy Scouts of America serving for many years as a scout leader. More than anything else, Jim loved his wife, Teresa, his children and his grandchildren, as well as all of his countless close friends too many to mention. On September 1, 2006 Jim was united to his loving and devoted wife, Teresa (Sheets) Stewart, who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Joseph (Sylvia), Matthew (Tiffany) and Nathan (Wendy) Stewart; daughter, Teresa Ann Stewart; step-children, Lalani Gomez (Steve Love, special family friend), Duane Hayes and Shannon Johnson; brother, Guy Richard Stewart. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Stewart; 9 brothers and sisters. Family will receive friends on Friday (1/4) from 10-11 a.m. at the Black Oak Baptist Church (6502 W. 25th Ave; Gary, IN) where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the VBISD. A special thanks to all of Jim and Teresa's co-workers and supervisors at the VBISD who donated their time and many prayers which allowed Jim and Teresa to share so much quality time together while Jim battled his illness.
