Jim passed away Wednesday evening, October 16, 2013 at Bronson Commons in Mattawan. He was born May 5, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of the late Arthur G. and Elizabeth P. (Van Prooyen) McDonald. Jim served in the U.S. Army in Germany and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Paw Paw. He liked to go fishing and hunting and enjoyed relaxing on the porch at his home on the lake. Jim owned and operated McDonald's Service Center in Kalamazoo for 34 years until his retirement. On June 25, 1960 at the Milwood United Methodist Church, Jim was united in marriage to Karen Loretta Marsh who survives. Also surviving are daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Wetters and son, Scott (Laurie) McDonald both of Kalamazoo, son, Craig (Pam Ritsema) McDonald of Lawton; grandchildren, Bradley Brouwer, Katie McDonald, Abbie McDonald, and Alicia Ritsema; sister, Dorothy (Pat) Fitzpatrick of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 siblings, Walter, Arthur, and Raymond McDonald and Alberta Smith. Family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 26, 1 to 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 412 Cedar St., Paw Paw where a funeral service will be held following the visitation at 2:15 p.m. with the Rev. Rebecca Crise officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Paw Paw or Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Arrangements are by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
