James Patrick McClain, 60, of Mattawan, MI, passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2024, following a valiant battle with ALS. James, known to most as Jim, was born April 19, 1964, in Jackson, MI, the youngest child of Barbara and William McClain. Jim was a skilled athlete growing up, playing baseball at Lawton High School, and was known to many as “Reggie.” He graduated from Lawton in 1982, and went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Finance from Western Michigan University. He worked in management for many years and recently retired from Dematic in Grand Rapids, MI.In 1997, Jim married Andrea, who came with 3 bonus children, and in 1998 they welcomed their son Brennan.Jim and Andrea spent many happy years watching Brennan play travel hockey, and some of their closest friendships were developed through hockey connections. Jim had several hobbies and interests in addition to Brennan’s hockey, and he especially loved Detroit sports, Canadian beer, the University of Michigan, genealogy, traveling with his wife, and over the past 13 years, watching his granddaughters grow up.Jim’s absence is felt deeply by those who love him. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 26 years, Andrea “Dee Dee” (Poole) McClain, his son and source of great pride, Brennan McClain, his stepchildren Jeffrey (Lindsay) Stull, Bryan Stull, and Lauren (Mike) Cutting, his sister Janet Green, siblings-in-law Laurie and Mark Sindelar, and Marci and Scott Poole, his nieces and nephews, and some of his favorite people… his granddaughters Lula, Avie, Elodie, Leonie, Aelyn, and Eira. Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, May 6, 2024, from 4-7pm at Adam’s Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Ave, Paw Paw. Funeral services will commence at 7pmwith Pastor Mark Vanderson officiating. Private burial will take place Tuesday at Harwick Cemetery in Mattawan. We want to extend gratitude to Jim's hospice team from Centrica Care Navigators- Larry, Lori, Tracy, and Rosie. We are so grateful for the exceptional and compassionate care and support provided over the past several months.
