James L. Houston, age 90, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehab Center in Bloomingdale. He was born June 22, 1924 in Hornersville, Missouri, the son of the late Alonzo and Minnie (Hall) Houston. He served in the United States Navy as an Armed Guard in the Pacific Theater. Before entering the service he was employed by Maple City Dairy, Paw Paw and later for Paw Paw Bait Company, Eatons and retired from the Van Buren County Road Commission. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. On May 6, 1946 in Paw Paw, Jim was united in marriage to Wanda Wegeler who preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 2003. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, and an infant daughter, Kathy Sue Houston and a brother, William Louis "Tiny" Houston. Surviving are4 children: son, Bob (Starr) Houston, Gobles, MI and their seven children, Poppy Paynter of Madison, WI, Charles B. (Noriko) Howell of West Chicago, IL, Robert James (Sara) Houston, Jr of Welches, OR, JoLynne (Luke) Frydenlund of Marshfield, WI, Amber (Ross) Amend of Yelm, WA, Dan (Cari) Houston of Gobles, MI and Jim (Rachelle) Houston of Rhododenron, OR; 12 Great grandchildren, Bryce Paynter, Anna Paynter, Emily Howell, Chella Houston, Jackson Frydenlund, Joshua Frydenlund, Lucas Amend, Derrick Amend, Millie Amend, Landon Amend, Tyler Houston, and Samantha Houston; son, Dick (Lisa) Houston, Lawton, MI and their two daughters, Megan (Adam) Clark of Grand Rapids, MI and Stephanie Houston of Grand Rapids, MI and one Great granddaughter, Elyse Clark; daughter, Kathy (Jeff) Zirkle, Topeka, KS and their two children, Kelly and Jack Meier of Orlando, FL, Jeremy Zirkle of Orange City, FL and granddaughter, Evie Meier; daughter, Patti (Mark) Zirkle, DeLand, FL and their two children, Jessica Zirkle of Kalamazoo, MI, and Jim (Nicole) Zirkle of Nashville, TN, and two great grandchildren, Erin Zirkle-Britt and Kendra Eaton. Family will receive friends Wednesday, (May 20), 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where funeral services will be held Thursday 2 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier officiating.
