James L. Figg, Sr., 86, of Paw Paw, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at White Oaks in Lawton. He was born January 19, 1928 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of James and Bessie Lorane (Gassaway) Figg. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On September 3, 1949 in Dresser, IN, he was united in marriage to Shirley Larson, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, James (Helen) Figg of Paw Paw and Gary (Carla) Figg of Mattawan; a daughter, Robin (Mack) Fenstermaker of Paw Paw; seven grandchildren, Stephen (Stacy) Figg, Scott Figg, Laura Figg, Shane Fenstermaker, Jamie Fenstermaker, Chad (Sarah) Payne and Brock Payne; five great grandchildren, Haley, Jade and Mason Payne and Stephen and Austin Figg; siblings, Hershel (Ethel) Figg, Kenny (Georgia) Figg, Norma (James) Yarbrough and Pat (the late Frank) Wall; an aunt, Juanita Gokey; several nieces nephews and cousins.

Jim was a metal buffer at Paw Paw Plating, retiring in 1982, and worked at the Paw Paw and Shipshewana Flea market for 20 years selling t-shirts and beanie babies. He was a life member of the Paw Paw Lions Club where he served as the first bingo chairman and white cane chairman, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of Red Arrow Ministries. He was a founding member of the Paw Paw Boosters Club where he worked the concessions and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and wrestling and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Saturday (3/29) at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Rev. Ben Bowater of Red Arrow Ministries, officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Paw Paw Lions Club immediately following the service for food and fellowship. Interment with full military honors will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday (3/31) at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Those attending are requested to assemble in the cortege area by 9:45 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Paw Paw Lions Club Christmas Basket Program, Red Arrow Ministries or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
