James Russell Brunet

James Brunet began his life in Manistique, Michigan, February 3, 1944. He was the son of the late Russell Brunet and Helen Jane (Goudreau) Burnet.
Jim grew up with his sister Jane and his brother Wayne David. As a young man, Jim enlisted in the Army National Guard. He had a 15 year career with Palisade's and then spent three years doing contract work. In 2004 Jim decided to retire. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan. The Lions and Tigers were his favorite teams. Jim also enjoyed cooking, reading and gardening. Most near and dear to Jim's heart was his cabin up north where he would go hunting and fishing. His love for the outdoors led Jim to join several clubs and organizations throughout the years. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Michigan Steelheaders, The Riverbend Boat Club, The Custom Rod Builders Association, and a business Jim started with his good friend, Dick Henry, was the Hennet Custom Flies and Rods, where they made custom flies and rods.

As Jim's health began to decline, he moved to Provision Living in Kalamazoo, where he passed away at the age of 78, Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

Jim is survived by his two daughters, Jessica (Kevin Klimach) Layne of Portage and Megan (Rick) Westerhoff of Lawrence, two grandchildren, Tony (Alondra) Westerhoff and Jack Westerhoff, his sister, Jane (Pat Purvis) Halpert; niece, Crystal Orphanopoulos, along with many close friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne David Brunet, his former wife, Sally Brunet, and his close friend and companion, Anita Hertz.

Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, October 12, 2022, beginning with a celebration of life at 4:30 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw. Following services, family and friends will visit until 7:00 p.m.
