Howard Martin Weatherwax, 68, of Gobles, Michigan, passed away on April 30th, 2021 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Howard was born to Eleanor (Wilson) Carr and Floyd Weatherwax on May 7th, 1952 in Paw Paw, Michigan at Lakeview Hospital. He graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1971. After graduation, he began a career working for the Van Buren County Road Commission where he worked for 36 years until his retirement in 2014.
Howard had earned the rank of Explorer Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and was forever proud of that accomplishment. He was a quiet, gentle soul who liked to sit and observe his loud, boisterous family often permitting a small grin and shake of the head at the teasing doled out by his brother. One of his greatest enjoyments was to watch his little great-nieces and great nephews run around. He also loved to grumble about the speeds in which his sister and nieces were prone to drive at (of course anything close to the speed limit was considered a breakneck speed to him).
He will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help anyone as well as his uncanny ability to sneak out of a social gathering undetected. He may have sneaked out of the greatest party of all, but his memory will remain.
Howard is survived by his sister; E.J. (Phillip) McAndrew; brother Clair (Kim) Carr; nieces Danielle (Spencer) Carr, Alyssa McAndrew, Tabatha (Curtis) Murray, and Tatum (Javan) Louis; nephews, Brock (Helen) Carr, Cody Carr, Lee Carr, Alan Field, and Tyler (Hailey) Pullano as well as great nieces; Rowan Carr, Linden Carr, Brielle Murray, Lyndsy Louis and Autumn Pullano and Great Nephews; Dominic Carr, Javan Louis Jr., and Mason Pullano.
He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents Donald and Etha Margaret (Martin) Wilson, paternal grandparents Mina Marie (Chapman) and William Weatherwax, and a sister, Jana Weatherwax.
A private, family graveside service will take place and a public Celebration of Life will be held on June 11th, 2021 at Chancey Park and Splash Pad in Lawton, Michigan from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Al-Van Humane Society in South Haven.
