Howard Kelley, 1924-2020. We lost another war veteran. He served in the Aleutian Islands for two years on a secret base where the planes landed, refueled, and took off to battle. His job was being the mailman. He was born February 22, 1924 in Lansing, MI and passed away June 18, 2020 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo at the age of 96.
He was the oldest child of Iva Cullimore and Ralph Kelley, leaving one sister, Betty Donaldson. Howard attended a little country school called Coup School, which is still standing but in poor condition. He was married to Norma Davis for 49 years before she passed away. He later met and married Mildred Farrow and enjoyed almost 15 more years of married life. He enjoyed many winters in Bradenton Florida. Howard lived most of his life in Fowlerville Michigan before moving to Paw Paw in 2009 where he met and enjoyed new friends from the senior center.
Howard worked at Consumers as a meter reader ad stockman for 36 years before retiring. He loved golfing, playing cards with his card buddies, watching baseball, (he enjoyed playing ball in younger days) basketball, bowling, and watching old movies on tv. In addition to his first wife Norma, Howard was preceded in death by daughter Jennifer and his parents Iva Thomas and Ralph Kelley. He is survived by his son, Howard Kelley, Jr., Mike Kelley, sister, Betty Donaldson, three grandsons, James (Tammy) Kelley, Matt (Brandy) Kelley, Chris (Jenny) Kelley, six great-grandchildren, one great great grandson, two step- daughters, Terri Farrow and Sheri Stimac, one step son, Larry Farrow, seven step grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren and one step great great granddaughter.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service and luncheon held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion Post 68, 115 N. Niles St., Paw Paw, MI and another memorial will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint John Lutheran Church, 132 S. Benjamin Street, Fowlerville, MI, 48836. Military honors will be presented with a luncheon to follow at the VFW in Fowlerville. Arrangements by Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw, MI.
