Harold (Hal) Wayne Snellgrose (73) of Dowagiac, Michigan passed away on Monday, November 14th, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 8, 1938 in Hartford, Michigan, the son of Coy and Naomi Ruth (Rucks) Snellgrose.
Harold was a member of the Board of Realtors and sold real estate for CW & Associates in Paw Paw, Michigan. He previously sold real estate for Century 21 Crosstown in Paw Paw.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James W. Smith.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Diane (Hoger) Snellgrose; three sons, Jeffrey Nisbet of Naples, FL, Timothy Snellgrose of Naples, FL, Harold Snellgrose II of Carmel, CA and one daughter, Jill (Snellgrose) Mullins of Dowagiac, MI; three sisters, Emily Horton of Inverness, FL, Trena Chamness of Spring Hill, FL , Mary Ann Masterson of Key West, FL; one brother, Donald Snellgrose of Joplin, MO; one brother-in-law, David Hoger of Dowagiac, MI; eight Grandchildren; four Great Grandchildren; two Aunts; nieces; nephews; cousins and countless friends spanning from coast to coast.
Harold was a 1956 graduate of Lawton High School in Lawton, Michigan but is an honorary alumni of Paw Paw High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. In 1962 he married Diane and they resided in Paw Paw, MI. A meat cutter by trade, in 1969 he decided to pursue a career in real estate and they moved to Middleville, MI. In 1974, the family migrated to Naples, FL and he went to work for the US Postal Service. 22 years later, Harold, Diane and family retired back to Paw Paw and eventually back to the post office, meat cutting and of course to real estate.
Harold enjoyed life. His hobbies included cars, golf, bowling, fishing and most of all, church.
He was an active member of the First Pentecostal Church of Edwardsburg, MI where he was "adopted" as a father, brother and grandfather. He truly felt part of the family there.
Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw, MI on Friday November 18, 2011 from 5pm to 8pm. Funeral services officiated by Pastor Robert L. Geans Sr. will be held Saturday November 19, 2011 at 11am with visitation from 10am-11am at the First Pentecostal Church, 27341 US12 West, Edwardsburg, MI 49112, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice At Home of St. Joseph, MI or the First Pentecostal Church Building Fund of Edwardsburg, MI.
