HENRY, Harold "Hal" Howard

Harold "Hal" Howard Henry, age 75, passed away Friday evening, January 23, 2015 at Heartland Nursing Home with his wife and children at his side. Hal was born Oct. 11, 1939 in South Haven, the son of the late Edward G. and Bessie B. (Youngblood) Henry. He was an All-State football quarterback for South Haven High School and received a football scholarship from Missouri State as a quarterback. He was employed by General Motors as a tool & die maker for 32 years until his retirement. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting, and had a great passion for trains and model railroading. He enjoyed the monthly "Breakfast Club" gathering of his classmates from South Haven High School. On Dec. 18, 1976 in Decatur, Hal was united in marriage to Joan Hoekstra who survives. Also surviving are six children, Kristi (Joe) Vyverman of Mattawan, Mindy Simpson of Otsego, Shari (Mike Blied) Henry-Blied of Kalamazoo, Todd (Shawna) Henry of Portage, Valarie (Brian) Mead of Decatur and Tim Cummings of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren: Brooke and Gavin Vyverman, Shelby, Austin and Walker Henry-Blied (Rife), Elizabeth, Anna, Alexandra and Charlotte Henry, Amanda (Greg) Pentland and Ryan Mead; great grandchildren, Tyler and Allison Pentland; sister, Bette (Dave) Allers, brother, Tom (Cookie) Henry both of South Haven; many nieces and nephews. Hal was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Cummings; grandson, Nicolas Henry and five brothers, Bill, Edward, Neil, Jim and Jack Henry. Family will receive friends Saturday, (Jan. 31) 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dean Beckwith officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
