Gunter Bruemmer

Gunter Bruemmer, age 91, of Mattawan, passed away May 4, 2016. He was born June 13, 1924 in Koerlin, Germany to the late Gustav and Helene (Wedtke) Bruemmer. Gunter served in the German military during WWII, following the war, he worked as a police officer in Germany. Gunter later immigrated to the United States to Chicago where he worked as a tool & dye maker. While in Chicago, he joined the Schwaben Soccer Club. In 1968, Gunter and his family moved to Michigan where he owned and operated the Green Acres Motel. He built his home in Mattawan where he continued his love for nature, planting trees and caring for his property. Gunter had a great love for animals and his family, he was a hardworking man and always made sure everyone was taken care of. He taught his grandchildren to shoot a bow, play badmitten and walked the trails in the woods with them. He was full of life and enjoyed playing soccer into his 70's. He is happy in Heaven now, possibly enjoying his favorite beer again. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Gunther is survived by his wife, Ann (Bloedhl) of Mattawan, son, Stewart (Debra) Bruemmer of Gobles, daughter, Linda Bruemmer of Kalamazoo and son Norman of Mattawan, along with four grandchildren, Christopher Bruemmer, Jessica (Cory) Anderson, Alexander Bruemmer, Simone Bruemmer and great granddaughter, Hailey Bruemmer. Gunter is preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 W., Michigan Ave., Paw Paw. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw, with Fr. Joseph Xavier officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
