Gordon J. Gerou, 90, of Lawton, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at his home on Bankson Lake. He was born July 25, 1923 in Detroit, the son of Miles and Ann (Grappan) Gerou. Gordon was a graduate of MacKenzie High School in Detroit and worked many jobs in his youth. He served in the Merchant Marines in WW II, attending Officer's candidate school, graduating as an Ensign in 1944. He was a Marine engineer and then worked his way up to chief engineer at the Wayne County General Hospital Power Plant, retiring in 1976. Gordon was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paw Paw and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly #0522 in Paw Paw. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona and California and playing golf, shooting pool and working in the yard.
On September 18, 1943 Gordon married his first wife Ruth, who preceded him in death in 1984. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Violet in 2011. He is survived by five children, Gail Gerou of Lawton, Nancy Crawford of Casanova, VA, James (Alberta) Gerou of Watton, MI, John "Jack" Gerou of Davis, CA, and Lynn Gerou of Ahmeek, MI; Rex (Marilyn) Dilyard and Bonnie Dilyard, of Flagstaff, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and best friends, George and Pat Graf of Lawton.
Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, February 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m., Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier, celebrant. Interment of cremains will take place in Gaylord in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
